These small fungal humanoids have lived in the swamps of what is now dubbed Raegeant by the Aethians for thousands of years, perhaps longer than their human counterparts have inhabited the west. When human settlers first staked claim to their land roughly 200 years ago there was confusion among the Raegeants followed by bloodshed. After a short war the human conquerors pushed their way into the Raegeant capital and forced the king to sign over fealty to the Emperor.

Raegeants are small humanoids with many qualities in common with the mushrooms of their homeland. Raegeants bodies are made of a hardened fungus that comprises the bone and muscular systems with softer, fleshlike padding on the outside. Their arms drop to around knee level and end in hands that each have two fingers and one thumb. Their short legs have three toes and are heavily padded, making silent movement very easy.
Raegeants’ heads are topped with large fleshy domes that are often tattoo’d or even branded. It’s mouth is small and only the smallest of morsels can be eaten effectively, the Raegents gains most of its nutrients from its hands which can leach nutrients from any food it holds onto for extended periods of time. The eyes of each raegeant has become accustomed to the perpetual lowlight of its home caves in the swamps, and usually range from white to muddled green.
Raegeants develop at a much quicker rate than humans do. Sexual maturity is reached around age 4, and old age in a raegeant community is 20. While human children run, laugh, and play, Raegeants must learn to survive in the swamps from a very young age, and as such due to their short lifespan, many raegeants are considered very cold and unyielding.
